Surgery aims to remove the tumour and, where relevant, nearby lymph nodes so they can be examined. Whether surgery is possible depends on the tumour's location and extent, on your general fitness, and on whether other treatment should come first. Tissue removed during surgery is examined and can change the plan afterwards. Recovery time, the length of hospital stay and the need for further treatment are all decided by the treating surgeon after assessment — not from records alone.
